Our President, Helen Dyck, opened the meeting this morning with 19 Rotarians in attendance.

2 Minutes of Rotary
Rotarian Bruce Huxtable informed us on the Habitat for Humanity and the partnership in Lantzville Rotary. Vicky Huxtable has been involved with the society and is seeking volunteers. Habitat for Humanity could be a good partnership with our club in the future.
Jo Dunn moved “our club to provide a $1500 scholarship to Pass/Woodwinds Secondary School in addition to the 2 $1500 scholarships to Ballenas Secondary.”  Seconded and passed
Helen announced salmon sales are done and we grossed $2691.
Gord S and John announced a March 17 St. Paddy’s Casino in partnership with Parksville Lions. All net proceeds will go to the maintenance of the Splash Park. Volunteers are need. Talk to Gord.
The Mid Island Group is meeting to review their mandate. Bill and lynnn will attend on February 17.
A Grant Seminar is being held February 10 at VIU Nanaimo. Need volunteers to attend. Talk to Jo.
Guest Speakers
Spencer Hancock, a member of the Ballenas Interact Club updated us on the following:
Members are attending Arrowsmith Lodge twice monthly and assisting the seniors in various tasks. 
A Community Wide garage sale is coming up and the funds are to be pledged towards the improvement of the outdoor track at Ballenas.
From the sale of handmade Rose Pins the club will be providing food for the hard done by people of Central America.
They have provided Micro Loans to women abroad to help them set up businesses of their own. They have $750 invested so far and these loans are paid back by these individuals over time.
Interact meetings occur at lunch hour at Ballenas Secondary on Wednesdays. You are welcome to attend and the lunch hour is 12:10 to 12:55.
Rebecca Marshall is the president of the Satellite Club which is sponsored by UBC. They hare building their own satellite from the ground up with Spencer being the software and hardware developer. They plan to lift off in New Mexico is they can raise up to $28000 to not build the rocket with all the wonder computer parts  but also to travel to New Mexico. Ken Armstrong carried out his duties faithfully thus filling the coffers of the club.
Our regular meeting of February 14th is cancelled and we will be attending the Rotary Club of Qualicum Beach Sunrise on the 13th of February. Meet at the Rotary House  Meeting starts at 7AM
