Editor's Note: Below is a letter from ADG Ed Fougner that will be of interest to members in our area:

At our last Area 2 A President's meeting it was agreed that we would support the nomination of Theresa Kingston, Rotary Club of Port Alberni Arrowsmith as our Area 2A Nominee for the Club Builder Award.

Port Alberni RC President Ken Watson, Port Alberni Arrowsmith President Pam Craig, And Arrowsmith Rotarian Kenn Whiteman prepared the Club Builder Nomination on Theresa's behalf.

I'd like to add my comments in support of Theresa:

  • In 2009 the Arrowsmith club completed a Visioning exercise in which Theresa's "vision" of the club's role as a community leader/facilitator was established — the club would involve other organizations in the community to share in the development of an area of the city into an "Art's District" that would benefit both residents and visitors.
  • In 2011, Theresa provided the leadership for the development of a Mission Statement and a 5 year Strategic Plan for the Art's District Project, 2011-2015
  • The Strategic Plan is reviewed annually, again with Theresa being the resource person in that review process
  • Theresa is also instrumental, each Rotary year, in providing the leadership in organizing and implementing member participation and "buy In" of the plans and goals for the year.
  • Arrowsmith is a small club (I call it "the little club that does") but accomplish really remarkable things each Rotary year and a great deal of that can be credited to Theresa's skill as a planner and as a person who understands group dynamics and who is able to apply that knowledge to help make things happen both in the community and in the Rotary Club of Port Alberni Arrowsmith.
