Bit of a cloudy day today as President Diana opened the meeting. We had 18 Rotarians in attendance this morning along with 3 guests, Kim Burden of the Rotary Club of Parksville, and our speaker, Jonathon Reynolds. Peter Hann, our Honorary Member arrived from Nanaimo and has promised to visit us again soon, hopefully at our first meeting in August so that he can lead us in a rousing 4Way Test.
 
Announcements:
The North Island Wildlife Recovery Association (NIWRA) has requested our club’s help in parking cars in conjunction with their Grand Opening of the Family Picnic area on September 7 from 9:30 till 3:00pm.
 
Don Luke reported that a great time was had by all who attended the Boots & Rails festivities in Port Alberni – good wine and an excellent salmon BBQ.
 
District 5020 District Conference will be held in Nanaimo June 19-21, 2015.
 
Gord Elliott reported that Beachfest is going well with everybody showing up for their shifts, but he needs some additional help on August 14, for the 1-5pm shift.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Lynne Pearson is still in recovery mode but was able to take a granddaughter on an Alaskan cruise.
 
2 Minutes of Rotary:  Major Norm talked about the Moose Jaw Rotary Club and their wonderful Interact Club. Of course he paid a fine for talking too long!
 
 
Ian Dewar introduced our speaker, Jonathon Reynolds, General Manager of the International Sustainability Education Foundation (ISEF), who gave us a snapshot of his Foundation which has teamed up with School District 69 to bring an International School to Parksville by January 2015. It will involve 15 international students who will be housed in a residential setting  on the current Parksville Elementary School property. The project is being funded by Westegrity, a Vancouver based private investment company.
 
Al Cameron told a joke that passed Kay’s sniff test, so was not fined.
 
Sgt. Bob also maintained his new-found reputation rivaling that of another Bob, Bob Sommers.
Helen Dyck turned 35 again on July 25, and Ken and Gayle Armstrong celebrated their 51st anniversary.
