Rotary Team Mexico: Day 7

With thanks to Team members Jane Walker, Diane Luke and Bill Rawlins for taking the time at the end of each exhausting day to supply write-ups and photos so we can all share in this experience.
This morning several of us had the privilege of working with the two women (Maria and Anna)  who coordinate the Senior's Centre. We helped prepare a lunch of chicken soup and tortillas,  served the seniors, played Mexican Bingo, and helped with cleanup.
The seniors (and some of their grandchildren) are so excited and appreciative of the new facility they will soon inherit.  Construction has been a true collaborative effort!

Today we completed tar papering the roof, painted more of the interior, skim coated around the windows and the remaining exterior walls, and dry walled the office.  Photo above shows Bill and Jo putting the last of the tar paper on the roof.  Below Anna and Deidre work together to paint one of the classrooms.

Louise gave Maria an orientation on the Janome sewing machine donated by Snip and Stitch and Maria is anticipating lots of projects happening with the seniors.

After dinner Karly and Raegan (shown below) came to speak on their work with the Oasis After School Program, their challenges and successes, and their excitement about the new facility. They have a wish list posted on their website at

We had a pleasant surprise at the end of the day when Andrew Bernardi walked through the door. Andrew (Dawn's husband) has been driving a bus on Live Different's northern Manitoba ice road tour. Andrew and Dawn are Live Different's directors and hosts. Andrew is with us for the next few days.
It was a great day of work and camaraderie!
