Darryl Craig Memorial Award by Lynne Pearson
The Rotary Foundation is the part of Rotary International that funds projects all around the world for improvement of health, support of education and alleviation of poverty. It also works with others towards the elimination of polio in the world. Rotary members and others donate money to the Rotary Foundation in for this valuable work to be done.

Today, Lynne told us about the Darryl Craig Memorial Award for Interact. Darryl was a highly respected principal of Ballenas Secondary and a valued member of our club for many years. This award is being established for the Interact Club through the generous gift of Foundation Recognition Points by retiring Rotarian, Ian K Dewar.

Paul Harris was the original founder of Rotary in 1905. A Paul Harris Fellow is awarded to someone who has donated $1,000.00 US to the Rotary Foundation. It is also used to award someone who has made an outstanding contribution to the community through their volunteer work.

The recipient of the Darryl Craig Memorial Award will be a Ballenas Interact Member who, during the school year, shows leadership in fulfilling the Rotary Foundation slogan of “Doing Good in the World” and who puts the most effort into achieving this. The recipient will be selected by members of the Ballenas Interact Club, along with the teacher advisor and the Rotary Advisor. The recipient will receive a Paul Harris certificate and Pin. They can reflect achievement of this award on their future school and work applications.

We hope the recipient will continue to have an involvement with Rotary after high school, possibly becoming a Rotoract member while at University or College and also become a member of Rotary.

A big thank you goes to Ian K Dewar for initiating this Award!

Bill or Kim can provide more information about this Award to the Interact Club which will be presented in June.
